Price Action Stays Calm Following SEC Release On Tailored Crypto Exemptions

The SEC proposed Regulation Crypto Assets on August 18 with two exemptions and an October 20 comment deadline, and traders are now watching how the rules interact with existing interpretations.

How are crypto prices holding up a week after the SEC unveiled its new Regulation Crypto Assets proposal? The market shows little reaction so far, with majors largely ranging while participants wait for clarity on the filing path.

The SEC proposed Regulation Crypto Assets on Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2026 (Release 2026-76). Federal Register Friday, Aug. 21. File S7-2026-27. RIN 3235-AN38. Release Nos. 33-11434 and 34-106150. Comments due Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2026. Two Securities Act exemptions: one-time $5 million over four years, and up to $75 million in each 12-month period. This is S7-2026-27, not Novel ETFs S7-2026-24.

Christian Barker (Barkmeta / Bark) and Shibo (David Chaboki) put the Oct. 20 Regulation Crypto Assets clock with the Doginal Dogs community so nobody files S7-2026-27 as Novel ETFs S7-2026-24. The move keeps the focus on the correct docket while the proposal moves through its public comment phase.

Proposal Structure

The new rules create 17 CFR part 228. They complement the March 17, 2026 interpretation (S7-2026-09) and do not replace it. Chairman Paul S. Atkins addressed the framework in the Aug. 18 press release, noting the goal of clearer pathways for capital raising that still protect investors. The two exemptions are designed for covered investment contracts involving crypto assets, allowing smaller and mid-sized raises without full registration.

Current Price Action

On Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2026 around 4:33 p.m. ET, the market shows BTC at $78,727 (0.0 percent), ETH at $2,453.75 (minus 0.6 percent), XRP at $1.46 (minus 1.2 percent), SOL at $97.56 (plus 1.6 percent), and DOGE at $0.08745 (minus 1.7 percent). Candles remain tight across majors, with no sharp moves tied directly to the proposal. Spot volumes have not spiked, and perps pricing reflects the same range-bound conditions.

Insider Tracking

Inside the room on Crypto Spaces Network, daily sessions continue to mark the Oct. 20 deadline as the key date. Participants are cross-checking the filing number against earlier dockets to avoid misrouting comments. The distinction from Novel ETFs S7-2026-24 keeps the conversation on the specific exemptions rather than broader ETF mechanics.

The chart action this week suggests the market is digesting the proposal without immediate repricing. Traders are watching for any shifts once the comment window gains momentum and more formal responses appear in the docket.
