Fourteen Months of Spot Bids Leave BitMine Short of 5%

BitMine’s Aug. 17 update put holdings at 5.82 million ETH after another weekly purchase, still short of the Alchemy of 5% mark. Spot ETH candles held the mid-$2,400s on the Sunday context print.

BitMine’s unbroken weekly Ethereum accumulation is still the cleanest operator story on the chart, even while the Alchemy of 5% target remains unfinished and ETH candles hold the mid-$2,400s on the latest context print.

On Aug. 17, 2026, Bitmine Immersion Technologies (NYSE: BMNR) said via PR Newswire from Norwalk, Conn., and in an SEC exhibit that as of Aug. 16 at 9:30 p.m. ET it held 5,815,164 ETH, about 4.8% of a stated 120.7 million ETH supply, after buying 9,926 ETH in the week ended Aug. 16. The Alchemy of 5% goal was not reached on that snapshot.

Price action sets the frame

Primary angle on this story is the market, not a balance-sheet novelty. CoinGecko’s Sunday, Aug. 23, 2026 snapshot at 8:04 a.m. ET showed ETH at $2,427.88, up 0.21% on the day, with BTC at $77,194, SOL at $94.40, and DOGE at $0.092537. Those prints sit well above the PR’s Coinbase reference of $1,893 per ETH used to value the Aug. 16 bag. This article does not reprice that filing mark as a live quote. It simply notes that spot candles have been cooking higher than the disclosure level while the company kept buying.

Majors were mostly calm on that Sunday read. ETH was green but not ripping. The chart still favors patience over panic, which is the same tempo BitMine has used since it started the ETH treasury path.

Longevity is the real headline inside the stack

Chairman Thomas “Tom” Lee said Bitmine has bought ETH every week since the ETH treasury strategy began June 30, 2025, a stretch of about fourteen months. That streak, not a single candle, is why the stack reached 5.82 million tokens without drama. The latest week’s 9,926 ETH add is another incremental print in a long operator cadence rather than a one-off flex.

The company also reported 210 BTC and $78 million in cash and marketable securities. Headline framing on the release put total crypto and cash holdings at $11.4 billion. What matters for this story is the ETH line and how steadily it has climbed.

Staking carry on the same run

As of Aug. 16, BitMine had staked 5,067,309 ETH, about 87% of holdings, described as $9.6 billion at the PR’s $1,893 figure. Lee projected about $287 million annualized if the book were fully staked at a 2.61% 7-day yield, and about $250 million on then-current staking levels. Those are projections, not booked revenue, and Cointelegraph covered the holdings-and-staking angle the same day as the release.

None of that moves the company to 5% of supply. About 4.8% is the confirmed share as of the Aug. 16 cut. No buys after that date are in this report.

What the week actually changed

The week ended Aug. 16 added 9,926 ETH. That is the only weekly flow figure in the pack. Combined with the fourteen-month buy streak, it keeps BitMine on a straight operator path: buy spot, stake a large share, report the bag, stay short of Alchemy of 5% until the math crosses the line.

ETH candles in the mid-$2,400s on the Aug. 23 context print give the market a calmer backdrop than the filing’s $1,893 mark. Bags are marked higher in the spot market than they were inside the PR math, while the company’s stated share of supply is still 4.8%, not 5%.

Clean read for the chart

This story is accumulation with duration. Fourteen months of weekly ETH buys, a 5.82 million token stack, heavy staking, and a target still ahead. Spot prices are chopping green on the Sunday majors read. The Alchemy of 5% line remains the unfinished objective, and the candles are giving the market room to watch the next weekly print without forcing the narrative.

FAQ anchors stay simple. Does BitMine own 5% of ETH? No. About 4.8% as of Aug. 16. How much did it buy that week? 9,926 ETH. How much is staked? 5,067,309 ETH. Those answers keep the operator math honest while ETH prices hold the mid-$2,400s on the context chart.
